![]() Just like a dog, R2-D2 follows orders very well and manages to do so without complaint. Both animals feel strong affection for and a strong degree of loyalty to their human companions, but it's expressed in ways that are completely opposite to one another. Rebels executive producer Dave Filoni perfectly sums up the difference between R2-D2 and Chopper as follows: "If Artoo is the family dog, Chopper is the cat." It's this analogy that highlights how the pair act. R2-D2 shows respect for the chain of command, but even in the heat of battle Chopper still finds time to argue. Despite both droids being astromechs, the two couldn't be more different in their personality and relationship to others around them. When focusing on just R2-D2, Chopper's uniqueness becomes even more apparent. It's unlikely that this event helped him overcome his fear because it was a stressful situation and one Chopper couldn't approach on his terms. Zeb picks him up and stuffs him in one of the bombers, but Chopper continues to warble on in protest. Chopper is scared of getting into the ships to pilot them back to the rebel base, frantically grunting in distress and anger. In the Rebels season three episode 'Steps Into Shadow: Part Two', Ezra, Zeb, Sabine, Rex, Hondo, and Chopper aim to scavenge Y-Wing bombers that the Empire is scrapping. ![]() But Chopper still carries the scars of being shot down and losing his pilot, steadfastly refusing to enter one of the ships worried the same thing happen again to his new family. The two would be inseparable from then on, going on to fight the Empire. Luckily for Chopper, his ship crashed at the house of the young Hera Syndulla, who pulled him out of the wreckage to safety. Even though R2-D2 has fought in many battles, he seems to cope with his own trauma in a much healthier way. It's a sad story showing how war can affect different Star Wars characters, and that even a droid can experience PTSD. It's unclear how many battles he fought in, but during the Battle of Ryloth Separatist forces shot his ship down, and killed the pilot. During the Clone Wars, Chopper served on the frontline as an astromech droid in a Republic Y-Wing. Unlike R2-D2's cushy past as a droid in the Royal Naboo Security Guard, or C-3PO's humble origins on Tatooine, Chopper is a droid with a tragic tale of how he came to join the Ghost crew.
